The full traditional history is set out in “History of ਮੱਲੂ ਨੰਗਲ”, the first record on this timeline. This note only keeps the points on which the two written accounts differ, so they are not blended into one story.
Punjab Kosh says the earlier settlement was associated with Pathans of Lille. Guru Arjan Dev Ji, travelling towards Guru Ke Bagh, asked for water. An attendant drew it in an earthen vessel. A Pathan broke the vessel. The Guru is quoted: “ਜਾਣਗੇ ਲਿੱਲੇ, ਆਉਣਗੇ ਗਿੱਲੇ.” Mallu Gill, grazing buffaloes outside, gathered about 20–25 Sikhs that night. The Pathans left. Guru Sahib then named the village Mallu Nangal.
The Gurdwara account on HistoricalGurudwaras.com says Guru Sahib was travelling towards Guru Ke Bagh with Raja Hari Sen of Suket Mandi. It identifies Bhai Malu Ji as a resident of Jagdev Kalan, who later destroyed the earlier settlement and established the village known as Malu Nangal.
Neither account gives a year. Neither gives Bhai Mallu Ji’s father’s name, lineage, or date of birth. The visit is tradition, not a verified chronology.
